Thoughts on Avalanche Lake

My Clearest View of Avalanche Lake

My Clearest View of Avalanche Lake

I loved the scenery at Avalanche Lake. It took a little hike to get to but it was all worth it. The mountains around the lake formed a nice amphitheater which reinforced that feeling of isolation when visiting the lake. There are trails around the lake but at the time of my visit, the weather wasn’t very nice. It was raining on and off and it make the trail quite muddy. This wasn’t the case in the trail coming to the lake but the trails around the lake itself were much more exposed and thus muddier. I didn’t want to get my shoes anymore muddy than they already were since I still have several days left in this visit.

Since the rain wasn’t so heavy that I would call it a downpour, it was still persistent enough to create a mist thereby obscuring the scenery. Sure, you can still see the mountains behind the lake but it isn’t a clear view. I tried waiting for the rain to dissipate but it wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be. It got slightly clearer and I can see the waterfalls behind the lake more clearly but that was as far as I could go. I decided to call it quits. Further downstream, you can also see fallen trees that seemed to have accumulated all in one place. It was strange but perhaps it was because of the local topography that the trees couldn’t go down any further. Or perhaps it was one large event which brought all these trees here. Who knows.
