Lake McDonald in the Morning

Lake McDonald

Lake McDonald

I managed to get a great breakfast a Eddie’s Cafe and Gifts. I didn’t get up very early this time since I don’t need to travel very far today. My destination for the day is the western side of the Going to the Sun Road. The scenic road is closed for repairs at Logan Pass, which is at the very middle of the Going to the Sun Road, thus I needed to drive a long way to get to the other end. This time around it would be much easier for me since I was already staying on the western side of the Going to the Sun Road. The most obvious destination for me is Lake McDonald. Apgar village which is on the shores of Lake McDonald is considered the starting point of the Going to the Sun Road.

On the Shores of Lake McDonald

I have seen Lake McDonald the previous days, I don’t think I would get tired of seeing this beautiful lake. Unfortunately, the lake wasn’t at its best that morning. The skies were overcast, and you won’t be able to see its signature blue waters. I’m almost disappointed. Lake McDonald is a remnant of an age when this area was covered with ice. The ice carved out a valley because of its sheer weight. When the ice retreated, the valley that remained was eventually filled with water. This became Lake McDonald. The waters of Lake McDonald are also amazingly clear. Because of the purity of the water, there is very little nutrition here for large amounts of fish to thrive. This further limits the amount of organic matter which can be found here.
