I was in Minnesota for a business trip but after work is done, our colleagues would bring us out to enjoy the place. This was very good for camaraderie and it helps break the monotony of the day. We were told that we were going to go for a boat ride after the meetings. I was having second thoughts on going since it sounds like it is something not every interesting. Minnesota is named as the land of ten thousand lakes. I thought that was an exaggeration but as the plane was making its final approach to the airport, I saw a lot of lakes big and small dotting the countryside. It was then I realized that it might not be too far fetched to actually have ten thousand lakes here. There actually around eleven thousand of them, more if you count the smaller ones.

The large number of lakes here is most likely a result of the glaciers which covered the area thousands of years ago. It is probably not difficult to imagine this area covered in ice since Minnesota is known for their bitterly cold winters. For our boat ride, we will be going to the city of Excelsior which is right by one of the larger lakes in the state, ninth in fact. The weather was actually perfect for some boat riding. It was still summer and the weather was very pleasant. It is a far cry from the constant gloomy weather I see every day.
