Going to Dun na mBo

I was slowly making my way north of the Belmullet Peninsula. My plan was to first go as far as I can in the Belmullet Peninsula and then start making my way back. I think this way is better so I know the maximum distance I could go and be able to better budget the time to explore the peninsula, if that makes sense. This part of county Mayo doesn’t seem to get that much attention because of it’s remoteness. I guess it is precisely it’s remoteness that makes it nice to go to. There is hardly any mass tourism and this is perfectly fine for me.

That being said, the infrastructure is already there. The roads are well maintained. They are no highways but they are better than dirt roads. The points of interest are also well sign posted so they are easy to find even you don’t use a satnav. Much of the roads here follow the coast which is where most of the interesting stuff is. Having been to other parts of Ireland, I already know that there would be outstanding coastal scenery here. My next stop is a mysteriously named place called Dun na mBo. From other places which I have visited, Dun seems to mean something like a fort. There is a circular looking structure here perhaps, that is the fort they were referring to.
