Keel Beach

Keel Beach at Achill Island

Remote as Achill Island maybe, you can’t really say too much about the roads here. There are road connecting the various villages of Achill that it is a breeze to get one one place to another, that is if you have a vehicle of your own. Otherwise, you would have to wait for the bus. I don’t even know if there is a taxi service here since it is so remote. I happen to stay in Dugort village which is to the north of Achill Island. It is a quieter side of Achill. The livelier side would no doubt be the Keel area of Achill. There are much more establishments here such as hotels, restaurants.

Why would they all be here. It is because they have the excellent Keel Beach right in front of them. There is a long strip of white sand beach you can play in. The weather unfortunately, wasn’t very conducive to swimming in the sea. It wasn’t raining but it was overcast. There were still people playing at the beach. This place seems to be a popular place since there is a trailer park here as well as an amusement park in case you get bored of the sea. There is a bit of a walk from the beach to the main restaurant strip facing the beach. It would have been nicer to have it closer to the sea but I think this was for the best so that waste doesn’t end up in the sea.
