I was making my way back to the Beitou metro station and I was trying to visit some spots I may have missed on my way to the thermal valley. Beitou was developed by the Japanese during the Japanese occupation. It was this time that Beitou gained notoriety as a red light district. This all changed when the Taiwan government regained control and revitalized the Beitou district. Now there is a nice park which leads to the thermal valley. There are a few historical buildings which are within the park area. One of these buildings is the Beitou Public Assembly Hall.

As the name implies, this is a place which for meetings. It is a bit hidden from view now with the park in the way. The hall isn’t a large structure, but it is certainly full of character. This appears to have been one of the structures built during the Japanese occupation. There is a shoe drop at the entrance of the assembly hall. There are compartments you can leave your shoes in and you can take the lock to the compartment with you. I wasn’t sure if this was a Japanese custom but I willingly obliged. Inside the assembly hall, you would be greeted with the shiniest wooden floor you have ever seen. The wood is painted dark and the shine of the floor really stands out. I think this is the reason why they ask you to remove you shoes before coming in.
