Going to Castelo de São Jorge

After all this walking in Lisbon I was beginning to think what is the point of all this. It was hot and the place was very hilly and it was as if I have been walking uphill for the longest time. The slope wasn’t that steep but it was enough to tire you out if you do if for a while. I had a lot of people around me doing the same thing and it makes me think that there might be a little too many tourists in Lisbon. I didn’t see this in other parts of the country, as least the ones that I have been to, but everybody seems to be here.

Apparently, there was a reason why there are a lot of people here, it seems that one of the most important landmarks of Lisbon is also here. Castelo de São Jorge or Saint George’s Castle is located at the top of the hill which we were all climbing. I can tell that we were already quite high up since there was a viewing desk which showed part of the city of Lisbon. Castles are usually built on a strategic location, in the case of Castelo de São Jorge, this is built on top of a hill, which makes it easier to defend. Besides, if anyone would want to invade this castle, they would probably be too tired by the time they arrive.
