Regaleira Chapel

Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra tries to be a self contained world where you can probably find everything in it. The estate covers a large area in Sintra and is one of the most important in the hill. There was a unique garden which has everything from tunnels, wells, waterfall and ponds all in one place. It is actually quite interesting to see something like this here. The estate was owned by a merchant family Monteiro. This name is sometimes used to refer to the estate as well. The estate became a collection of various symbols which interested them at the time.

Therefore I wasn’t really surprised to see a tiny chapel on the side of the rode. It is a chapel around four chairs wide. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up in design. The chapel is a masterpiece of Manueline architecture, which is a style popular at that time. Because of the small size of the chapel, it is not possible for visitors to enter it. From the outside visitors can see the detail of the chapel. It really looks like the one who commissioned the work were very rich. It is no coincidence that this chapel is within a large estate owned by a rich merchant.
