Going to Fatima

I was very happy with my visit to the monastery of Batalha. It was a very impressive showcase of Portuguese architecture even if the monastery was never completed. There were parts of the monastery which looks like the artist just went wild in designing the structure. I am now leaving Batalha and I hope to be able to see more of those. I would not travel that far to my next destination. It would be a place would I have heard of since I was young. For me, Fatima was a place which only exists in books and in church. I never thought that I would be able to visit this place one day.

When I looked at the map as I was planning my trip, I noticed that Batalha wasn’t that far away from Fatima. I thought that if it was already that close, I might as well make a go for it since it is along the way. There were numerous signs to Fatima and it is not surprising since this is one of the major pilgrimage sites in the Catholic world. Fatima is best known for apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three small children. It was here that she gave her message which was the subject of debate for years. The road to the city of Fatima was easy enough to find, I’m just hoping it won’t be that touristy.
