Thoughts on the Monstery of Alcobaça

Monastery of Alcobaça

The monastery of Alcobaça was a great introduction to the history of Portugal. This was considered one of the most important monasteries in Europe and it certainly played a part in the course of history of Portugal. It is also considered to be one of the largest, if not the largest, churches in Portugal. While this church was quite bare as far as churches go. It is an excellent example of architecture from that period. To be honest, the church was a bit of a let down since it was so bare. I probably expected more from churches especially from a country like Portugal.

Small Streets Across the Monastery of Alcobaça

Small Streets Across the Monastery of Alcobaça

I finished my tour of the monastery of Alcobaça. This is a small city and I am not aware of any other places of interest apart from the strip of restaurants just across the church. I was actually starting to feel tired from all that traveling starting from last night. I don’t want to be so tired that I would end up falling asleep at the wheel. While the next location isn’t really that far away, I don’t want to take any chances. So far, I think it has been a good start for the trip. The weather is great and I hope it keeps up for the rest of the trip.
