Hiking in Inishmore Island

Village at Inishmore

Instead of taking the tour bus, I decided to use my own two feet to hike Inishmore. I was thinking that the times quoted by the tourist office were overestimated, since we were all tourists, however, it was actually underestimated. Once I got past the main village at Inishmore, and I realized that I should have taken the tour bus instead, it was already too late. I spent an hour walking along the main highway of Inishmore on a largely uninteresting landscape. I actually reconsidered the hike, hoping there would be a place where I can take the tour bus instead but there wasn’t.

There were also hikers along the way, but the vast majority of people on the road were on bicycles. I have no doubt that people were also surprised as to how large the island actually was. There were points where I would be overtaking people pushing bicycles along the way, maybe I don’t walk that slowly after all. One of the main goals of this hike it to make it to another village on the northern half of the island. This place should be quite prominent since there were a lot of people here. There were pubs and lots of bicycles here. It seems that this is an important place and I thought that I was lucky to have made it all the way here on foot.
