Going to Rossaveel

Ferries to the Aran Islands in Rossaveel

Ferries to the Aran Islands in Rossaveel

I had a lovely night’s stay at Acorn House Bed and Breakfast. I needed to leave the house early the next day since I needed to go to the village of Rossaveel. The village is to the west of Galway but still forty minutes away. It is one of the main ports for ferries going to the Aran Islands. I booked a seat on the ferry so I needed to make sure that I was there before it leaves. The place was easy enough to find. There were signs pointing to the ferry terminal. There was a very large parking area near the port. Parking here is per day. It seems that people who visit the Aran Islands tend to spend the night.

I left the car at the carpark with a receipt to say when I got there. I believe I need to show it when I leave the car park. The port is not that far from the carpark, you just need to follow the people heading towards it. There are several embarkation points and I wasn’t sure where I needed to go. Finally there was a man who told me where visitors for Inishmore will be departing from. The ferry wasn’t as large as I thought it would be, but at least it was much larger than the one I took for Tory Island, which was basically a small fishing boat. There didn’t seem to be an outside area here which I take to mean that the ride won’t be nice.
