Exploring the Céide Fields

It seems that the Céide Fields is a very special site even though it probably doesn’t get as much exposure as it should. Céide Fields is considered the oldest field systems in the world. It is also the largest neolithic site in Ireland. The land was inhabited by farmers who cleared the land. The land was then divided into plots separated by stone walls. The site is spread over a large area that it could only be a very large and organized community which is capable of managing something like this.

Apart from the fields and walls themselves. There are also structures which have been considered as dwellings of the people back then. There were stones which are laid out in a circular manner which implies that this is a place which people used to stay in. Not much is left from this stone structure apart from the stones themselves. One can probably explore this place for years and discover something near every day. There is now a wooden walkway for visitors to walk on so they won’t accidentally destroy precious artifacts. We had a guide who was talking about the site and I thought the guide was very knowledgeable. He made the tour very interesting and you almost want to pick up some tools and start digging here. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t very good that time so the group decided to cut the tour short. There is still the visitor center to see.
