Going to Castle Caldwell

It looks like I would have more than my fair share of castle visits this trip. Fermanagh seems to be a treasure trove of plantation castles and because they are not that far from each other, it really makes me want to just explore them all since I was already in the area. I planned the trip such that I would visit the one furthest first and I would slowly make my way back towards where I came from. My next stop would be Castle Caldwell. The moment I arrived at the area of Castle Caldwell, it already felt different. It seemed that there was too much greenery here, almost like a forest.

I thought it was a strange place to have a castle with all these plant growth. Castle Caldwell was initially rented to the Caldwell family until they were recognized as barons. The castle is a typical scottish castle and it was occupied until the 20th century. I was quite surprised to know that it was until recently occupied since the plant growth in the area was that thick. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that the castle had been abandoned for centuries. It seems that the most recently occupied one would be the one which is in the worst state.
