Basilica of Saint Michael in Bordeaux

Although Bordeaux isn’t that large of a city, I was surprised to know that it has tow basilicas. The first one is the Bordeaux Cathedral, which I have visited earlier and the second one is the Basilica of Saint Michael. Both are gothic church and have similar designs. However, the Basilica of Saint Michael stands out more because of the standalone bell tower which is probably one of the tallest structures here in Bordeaux. In true gothic fashion, the tower rises high and ends with the pointed tower. This makes the bell tower appear taller than it really is. This area appears to be a nice place to hang out with several restaurants and cafes within the vicinity.

The Basilica of Saint Michael was built between the 14th and 16th century. While I wasn’t able to visit the bell tower itself because it was closed during the colder months, the main church building is open to visitors. As expected of gothic churches, the entrance of the church was also richly decorated. It would be nice to take some time to observe the details of the church from the outside. I would like to visit this place at night as well, since the basilica would most likely be lit up at night.
