The history of Bordeaux seems to be one of constant renewal. Back then, Bordeaux was a major port but in a state of urban renewal. The old port was relocated elsewhere. The location of the old port was then reclaimed and turned into what is now the Saint Pierre district of Bordeaux. There are numerous historical structures here in Saint Pierre district and it is considered one of the most beautiful. One of these structures is the Saint Pierre church which was built on top of the old port itself. As for the name? Saint Pierre is believed to be the patron saint who protected the residents of Bordeaux. Saint Pierre is actually just French of Saint Peter the Apostle.

The gothic church of Saint Pierre in Bordeaux is a gem of a church. The church itself oozes with charm like a lot of gothic churches tend to do. The inside of the church is typically gothic, with soaring columns typical of this type of architecture. Immediately, your eyes will be drawn to the stained glass windows which adorn the altar area. This isn’t actually that old, apparently only set up in the 19th century. However, there are other interesting features of the church including an altar featuring the La Pieta which features the Blessed Virgin Mary holding the body of Jesus Christ. This one in particular is impressive as it is made of wood, unlike the marble one in Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
