Inside the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Cecilia in Albi

I was very impressed with the sheer size of the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Cecilia in Albi. Apparently, it was meant to project the power of the Catholic Church during some period of crusades. It had the tallest church tower that I have ever seen and this was built more than five hundred years ago. Entering the basilica, one can that there was a lot of care given to the construction of the church. It seems like even the details of the church were meant to impress people as well. Looking at the church from the outside I would guess that this is most probably a gothic church since gothic churches tend to have all columns. In the case of this cathedral, they have very tall columns.

I wasn’t surprised to be right in my hunch that this was a gothic cathedral. The columns of the cathedral rise two stories before joining to form the roof. The second level is composed of stained glass windows which brighten up the interior of the cathedral. At the center of the cathedral is of course the altar which is one of the main features of the church. I will have a better look at the altar later, but first, I will have to explore the rest of the cathedral.
