Closer Look at the Structure of the Amphitheater of Arles

From the pictures I have seen of Arles, it is probably best known for its Roman ruins and arguably what is the main attraction in Arles is the ancient Roman amphitheater that stands to this day. I actually have never been inside the Colosseum in Rome. I have been outside but just my luck that the site was closed for a public holiday. This time, there is no public holiday and I will be able to see an authentic Roman amphitheater. Like much of Arles Roman heritage, the amphitheater is also two thousand years old. It is in remarkably good condition considering its age, no doubt continually reinforced throughout the years.

The amphitheater of Arles is the most visited landmark in Arles and it is the most prominent one in the city. It is quite large as it can be clearly seen on the map of the city. The site is part of the heritage ticket of Arles which I have already purchased earlier in the day. Entering the amphitheater feels like entering a sports stadium. While the amphitheater has walls, there are portals which allow you do see the inside of the structures. The structure of the amphitheater is more prominently exhibited once you enter the grounds of the building. There structure is supported by a ring of arches upon which another layer is built on. It seems incredible that this was all made out of stone but such was the construction expertise of the ancient Romans.
