Going to the Arles Amphitheater

I was surprised how rich in history the city of Arles is. It used to be a provincial capital of the Roman empire and has a lot preserved Roman ruins. As far as these are concerned. There are a few locations which are inscribed into the UNESCO World Heritage site listing for Arles. I have already visited two of them – the Baths of Constantine and the cryptoporticus. These are typical Roman structures but have been remarkably preserved. As impressive as these sites are, it seems that Arles still has more to give. I was wandering aroud the city center and came across yet another important site.

Much like other major Roman cities, Arles also had an amphitheater. This was obviously where performances here held which seem to be a favorite form of entertainment by the Romans. This would be the third Roman theater which I would be visiting this trip. I honestly didn’t expect to visit that many. Unlike the theater in Lyon, the one in Arles has an entrance fee. I was trying to figure out where the entrance was, but I needed to walk all the way around the site to find out. I ended up following other tourists to the entrance. Already I can see that it wasn’t as big as the previous ones I have been to but this place might still hold some surprises for me.
