Exploring the Triumphal Arch of Orange

Triumphal Arch of Orange

Triumphal Arch of Orange

The Triumphal Arch of Orange is a short walk from the town center of Orange. This is the second UNESCO listed site in the town and it is not to be missed. The two sites are listed under the name Roman Theatre and its Surroundings and the “Triumphal Arch” of Orange. Although the triumphal arch of Orange is estimated to be two thousand years old. It doesn’t show its age that much. Part of the reason is probably because restoration has been done on this arch over the years. As a result, it is in very good condition. I like how people from a century ago would have sense to work on preserving these old monuments. I found it not hard to imagine that old structures are normally demolished in favor of progress.

Detail on the Arch of the Triumphal Arch of Orange

The triumphal arch of Orange is set on a modern roundabout, much like the one in Paris but on a much smaller and less confusing scale. The arch in Orange isn’t as tall and thus there is no way to climb to the top of it, nor was there any need to. From the looks of it, the arch here in Orange didn’t seem to be that popular since there were hardly any tourists when I was there. I won’t be surprised to know that tourists bypass the arch and just make their way to the ancient theater in their visit to Orange. It is just a bit out of the way which is a shame.
