A la Traboules

Some Kind of Soft Cheese Dessert

I was glad I was able to find one of the famed traboules of Lyon. I was expecting them to be all over the place but it seemed it won’t be so easy to find. I believe there more better known ones than the La Longue Traboule but I wasn’t able to visit them. All that walking made me hungry. Only then did I realize that it was already past lunch time. Fortunately, Vieux Lyon has no shortage of eating places. I was determined to make the most of my stay here in Lyon and sample their Lyonnaise cuisine. This actually not a difficult task since a lot of the restaurants here specialize in Lyonnaise cuisine.

It was probably a coincidence that I ended up eating at a place call A La Traboules. The name, which screams tourist trap, obviously tries to ride on the traboules which made Lyon made famous. I managed to find a seat in the busy restaurant. It was nice and cozy since they also have fire inside. Nice since it was cold outside. I decided to order one of Lyon’s specialty dishes – Tripes à la Lyonnaise. The name is tripes Lyonnaise style.

I actually like tripe, the texture is nice and chewy without being too tough. I was not sure how to describe Lyonnaise style but the taste wasn’t too much of offal. The texture would be a givaway since it is obviously not meat. The dish came with potato but I was glad they served bread before that since the tripe wasn’t that much. For dessert, I had a kind of cheese that looks more like jelly. It was really a different kind of cheese and I probably wouldn’t have believed it if they didn’t tell me what it was. While my meal at A La Traboules wasn’t the most satisfying of meals. It still gave me a taste of some unique Lyonnaise cuisine.
