It was an emotionally draining day for me. I visited the infamous Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp which is now a museum. On exhibit were reminders of how horrible the Nazis were. It is just incredible how bad it eventually became when it started with “mere” racism it ended up in extermination of entire peoples. I was dropped off at the apartment I was staying at in Krakow. It was still mid afternoon, so I decided to just go back to the apartment and get some rest. At least it was warm in the apartment. There was a provided electric heater to help keep things toasty in the room.

That evening it was time for me to find food again. I didn’t really wander far away from the Old Town of Krakow since there were a lot of options here for all budgets. It ended up at this restaurant named Czerwone Korale. What attracted me was the colorful interior which was basically white and red, the colors of the Polish flag. I saw this dish which caught my eye and I decided to have appetizers with it. I got Baltic herring with onion and garlic. It was interesting since the meat of the fish wasn’t as soft as I thought it would be. It felt that it was almost raw. It didn’t turn me off though, it was my first time to have herring so I didn’t really know what to expect.

The main dish was a bowl of soup where you can eat the bowl. It was actually beef stew but what made it different was the bowl. The bowl is actually made of thick bread where a hole was carved into. The stew filled the hole and it was served just like that. I thought it was an interesting way to present the food and the stew was actually not bad. However, I didn’t like having to eat the bread bowl. It too me a long time to finish the entire bowl. I know, I don’t have to finish the whole bread but I don’t like to leave anything uneaten. The bread was a little too thick for my tastes.
