It was disappointing to find that the Church of Saints Philip and James in the village of Sękowa was closed. I wasn’t sure if it was because the interior was not very good anymore or it was just closed. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anyone nearby to ask about these things. I would have expected a parish office somewhere but that would only be true this was still an active parish. I can imagine that the church can still be used for celebrations. By going around the church, one can get a feel of how much the roof takes up much of the building.

I’m only speculating here but perhaps the reason why the roof is as long as it is was because the design guides water away from the main body of the church. The shingles of the roof are also made of wood so it would be best for water not to pool anywhere. By having a very large roof dedicated to keeping out water, you would end up with a structure much like what is here right now. There was probably not much need to shingle the walls of the church itself since the roof already does the job for it.
