The church of Saints Philip and James in Sękowa is the fourth wooden church I have visited here in southern Poland. Among the four which I have visited, this was probably the most unique among all of them. Even when I was looking these places up, the one which struck me the most was this church. While the church has the design elements from the other churches, this one takes roofing to the next level with the roof taking up much of the profile of the church. Because of the large amoung of roofing, this doesn’t leave a lot of space for windows. It does have windows, but the window to roof ratio is heavily skewed in favor of the roof.

It was still raining, so I had to seek shelter in the church. Part of the roof covers a partially open area presumably to let people gather. As you can imagine, the area was quite dark since the roof all but covers everything. I tried getting into the church but the door was looked. I heard that it would be possible to get in as long as you call, but I don’t know about this church. The interior of the church is said to be poor condition. It would a shame to lose it since this one is the most unique among all those churches also part of the UNESCO World Heritage site listing.
