Slowly but surely, I was making my way through the south eastern corner of Poland. I was on a tour of the Wooden Churches of Southern Lesser Poland which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site list. I have already crossed out two from the list and I finally made it to the village of Binarowa. I probably went through a tour of the Polish country side but wasn’t terribly impressed. There were a few towns and villages along the way but it didn’t really strike me and interesting. Binarowa seemed to be another one of those Polish village but this one happened to have a gem in the Church of Saint Michael.

The Church of Saint Michael is part of the Wooden Churches of Southern Lesser Poland and quite frankly looks very much like the other wooden church which I have been to. It was difficult to tell the them apart since they have the same architectural style, same wooden exterior and same color. One would need to compare them side by side to be able to point out features which distinguishes one from the other. One feature which I noticed was how the wood was actually partially layered on top of the previous one. I would think that this was done to keep water away from the interior of the church. I would have been very difficult to construct something like this piece by piece. One can really appreciate how this structure was a product of a labor of love.
