It would be very easy for forget that Wieliczka is still a town and the salt mine is not the only place to see here. True, it is probably the most famous site here but one can also have a look at the town while you’re already there. When I stepped out of the lift, I was blinded since we were in the dark mine for so long. Once everything went back to normal, I was confused since it wasn’t very clear where to go. There guide was pointing us the way. It seems the bus stop isn’t that far away. But before that, it seems there are still places to see here.

Stepping outside the mine facility, it became clear that it was in the middle of a town. This place probably was much more lively back in the days when the mine was still in operation. These days, the buzz predominantly comes from tourism. I don’t know much about the town to know how it has change them. Then again, the mine was already open to visitors even before, counting prominent people like Copernicus and recently Pope John Paul II who happens to come from a town not too far from here. Just outside the mine exit was a church dedicated to Saint Clement. I didn’t get to go in the church probably since I was in a hurry to get back to Krakow.
