Stanisław Staszic Chamber in the Wieliczka Salt Mine

The chambers we were being led into at the Wieliczka Salt Mines were certainly very impressive. It gives you an idea of how much rock salt was excavated from this mine to be able to create a chamber this large. Apart from the subway, I am seldom underground, but I think this is one of the largest underground spaces I have ever been to. Perhaps there are larger natural cavas but as far as man made ones, this one surely is tops. I didn’t know that we would be brought to an even large chamber, this one is the Stanisław Staszic Chamber.

The Stanisław Staszic Chamber in the mine is the largest chamber accessible to visitors. I don’t know if there ones which are inaccessible to visitors but this one is certainly very impressive. This one also happens to mark the end of the guided tour. We were left to walk around the area and we were told that it was impossible to get lost in here. There is also a large UNESCO marker here. This also seems to start the commercial part of the Wieliczka Salt Mine. There were several shops here selling souvenirs, including salt crystal lamps. I admit they look very nice but I don’t think I have space to bring it back home.
