Inside the Church of the Gracious Mother of God

The Old Town of Warsaw was surprisingly small. It is used to be what Warsaw was but it has since expended into the New Town and further on as the modern city of Warsaw. In a sense, the Old Town is still the heart of Warsaw. The old town is surrounded by buildings which I thought were taller than they should have been. One of these buildings is the Church of the Gracious Mother of God. What I immediately noticed was that the church was quite tall. This is due to the lack of space here at the old town. It does have that familiar flight of stairs which are common in large churches. Curiously enough, the wiki for this church lists it was simply Jesuit Church.

Indeed, it is a church which was established for the Jesuits by no less than the king. Interestingly, the Jesuits didn’t have control of the church all throughout. It was only in the last century that they regained back control. All through the centuries, the church was continuously improved by adding more elaborate furnishing. While there was no service going on at the time of my visit, there was a monk like person who was sitting near the door. It was almost like he would scold me for taking photos inside a church. In the end, I could only take a photo from the inner doors. I would be back in Warsaw in a few days, I might be able to get a better look.
