I wasn’t really feeling up to the challenge of exploring the Old Town of Warsaw. The weather wasn’t very good as it has been raining ever since I got here. It was also freezing. Part of me just wants to go back to the apartment and sleep. But that would be a shame since I was already here. I know that I will be spending a few days here towards the end of my trip so I didn’t need to rush anything. But the call of a new place beckons and I just had to see what is around here. I decided to start somewhere near the apartment.

The walls of the Old Town of Warsaw are a reminder of days past. One could think of the Old Town as the royal capital. In the meantime, a new town was built outside the walls of the Old Town. Fittingly called the New Town of Warsaw, it also contains a lot of the charm of the Old Town except perhaps the royal palace. Warsaw has a habit of getting burned to the ground and this happened several times, first major one was during the Swedish invasion where the wooden dwellings got destroyed, this gave way to more elaborate buildings. However, in World War II, the city was flattened by the Germans. It was started to be restored at the end of the war.
