Exploring Hore Abbey

Hore Abbey is a cluster of ruins near the Rock of Cashel. I was an old Benedictine/Cistercian abbey back in the day. It wasn’t that successful though since it didn’t really earn much money. It was a strange measure of success considering abbeys by nature should not be about money. Maybe it was different back then. Abbey is located at what is now a grassy field. To my untrained eye, there weren’t signs of neighbors but I maybe mistaken. I always felt these kinds of places are interesting as you get a glimpse of how life was back then.

I Think This is the Altar Area of the Church at Hore Abbey

I Think This is the Altar Area of the Church at Hore Abbey

The ruins of Hore Abbey basically show the remains of a church as abbey’s tend to be. It was hard to tell if the church have amazing interiors since it was all bare rock now. One can imagine how the church used to be. Surprisingly, parts of the roof were still intact. I was my experience that the roofs are usually the first to be removed perhaps due to safety considerations. Here one can get an idea of how the church looked like before. There is a table looking structure here and I could only imagine it to be the altar. It is amazing that places like these can be easily visited here.
