Going in the Rock of Cashel

Entering the Rock of Cashel

Looking at the Rock of Cashel, it was kind of difficult to figure out the structure of the place. One would probably need a map to understand what it is. Immediately what comes to mind is a cathedral. True enough the largest structure here in the Rock of Cashel is Saint Patrick’s Cathedral. The interior of the structure is actually cruciform which gives away its purpose. The roof is long gone now but it was good because it lets the sun in. When the sun it out, it makes for nice photos. People would start their exploration at the nave which is where most of the congregation would be.

One would have to pay very good attention to detail when exploring the Rock of Cashel. There are a lot of things that one may miss here without a guide. I didn’t bother with one since I thought that would take a lot of time. I was just here for the photos. The transept of the old cathedral was next, and i think this is where the impressive stuff is. One can see where old chapels would have been as well as long windows which I would imagine held stained glass windows back then. It was almost difficult to imagine that there was such a grand place here back in the day. I start to wonder how can something so grand be just abandoned like this.
