Moving on from King John’s Castle

King John's Castle in Limerick

King John’s Castle in Limerick

I was quite impressed by the scale of King John’s Castle. The castle was a large as it looked from the inside. There were a lot of rooms which was recreated here to give visitors an idea of what the room was used for back then. There were a lot of stories here which in a lot of ways explain relationship between England and Ireland. I didn’t know much about the animosity behind this but it seems to be quite deep rooted. Thankfully, things are much different now. It was time to move on but the rain was still pouring here in Limerick. It was really not a very nice day and I decided not to bring the car with me since I wasn’t familiar with the city.

I wanted to take photo of King John’s Castle but the only way for me to do that was to cross the river Shannon. There was no shelter here to allow me to do that. I quick took a few snaps and continued walking. The bridge here allows me to cross the river to let me take photos from the other side. I thought it was amazing that this bridge figured prominently in the struggle between the English and the Irish. The bridge now is probably much sturdier now than it was back then, it is probably one of the busiest bridges in the city.
