Inside the Market Hall of Bruges

The Belfry of Bruges stands tall in the entire town as it is the most easily spotted landmark in the entire town. It is also part of the Belfries of Belgium and France and Historical Center of Bruges UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is a very unique status which only very few places can lay claim to. The Belfry of Brughes is attached to the market hall which is obviously where all the trade happens. The original market is now gone but when we visited there was some sort of trade fair going on where local shops have stall to showcase their goods. I think this is a very nice thing to do since it promotes local businesses. Upon entry through the belfry, you will be greeted by a few stalls which sell local products.

We climbed up to the second floor to see more exhibitors, some would sell “ordinary” goods like vegetables and they even make stew out of it. Others have the other famous Belgium product – beer. We got to sample two of them – Zot and the Straffe Hendrik. I don’t know how to describe beers but it is typical that they are strong being Belgian beers. It is definitely a fry cry from the mass produced stuff which floods the supermarkets outside Belgium. There were also other stalls which sell local snacks. I think we had an enjoyable time looking through the stuff here. I think every town should have this kind of thing.
