Knocknarea

Knocknarea Looming in the Horizon

We finally left the small town of Knock in county Mayo. Apart from the basilica, there isn’t really much to do here in town. You could go for a bit of shopping, that is if you are into religious items. While some of the items on sale can be quite good, quite a few of them can be tacky. This has somehow ruined Knock for some people, I myself didn’t really find anything I wanted there apart from a large container of water. We were basically retracing our steps back to county Donegal. There are also interesting places here so we hope we would be able to visit a few of them. I don’t think we would have time to linger in each of the places but we will try to make do with the time.

A Look at Knocknarea from Strandhill

We were trying to trace part of the Wild Atlantic Way which runs down the western coast of Ireland which faces the Atlantic Ocean. It is basically a tourist route to promote route and it already picks out one of the more interesting places along the route. Our first stop is Strandhill. This is a small town which is on the western coast. Apparently it is quite well known for its scenery. The most prominent structure here in Strandhill is the structure for which the place was named for. Knocknarea or the Hill of Kings is a massive hill which dominates the landscape. The dome shaped hill overlooks the entire area and can be seen for kilometers. It would probably be a great experience to walk up the Hill of Kings. Someday I would like to be able to climb it. I don’t think it should be that hard.
