Caesar’s Tower Stairway

Look Out Point in the Caesar’s Tower in the Medieval Town of Provins

The Caesar’s Tower wasn’t exactly very tall to begin with. The three story tower looks taller than it really was. This was due to the fact that it was built on top of an elevation as well as a platform on top of it. This probably gives it a height of around five stories. Still not terribly tall but this was enough to give them a good view of the surrounding area. There aren’t other very tall structures here for good reason. You can’t have other buildings block the view of the scouts. There was a rather narrow stairway to climb the tower. The stairway was quite dark and there were no electric lights here. The lights were all coming from windows or openings in the walls.

Climbing up the tower is a bit of a scary activity. It was dark but it gives you and idea of how it was back then. You could imagine being locked up in a dark tower like this. The windows were very small, but there was a level where there was a open wall where lookouts can keep and eye on invaders. From here you can see a great deal of the medieval town of Provins. Hopefully the higher levels will provide a better view.
