Walking Down the Halls of the Grand Trianon at the Palace of Versailles

The Grand Trianon at the Palace of Versailles is a humbler version of the palace. Louis XIV commissioned the building of the Trianon but had to rebuild it after two years with longer lasting material. The Grand Trianon was where Louix XIV would rest, away from the stress of his work at the chateau. The king would also host guests here and I think it is a less stressful location than the main chateau. The Grand Trianon has the appearance of a mansion rather than a palace. This was much better than the over the top opulence seen at the main chateau. Perhaps all that gold at the chateau was causing the king headaches.

Not As Fancy as the Chateau but it is Still Nice

The Grand Trianon is thankfully much smaller than the chateau. It still has its own garden and it is quite hidden from the rest of the palace grounds. I think that was the whole point of having a retreat within the palace grounds. At least you can let the king relax and yet still keep him safe. For such an important place, the Grand Trianon only has a single level. The cheateau has two levels. I guess they are not into climbing stairs. It would be more impressive if the palace was wider, aside from the fact that it makes building the structure much easier.
