Visiting the Book of Kells

I stand in awe of one of the more well known educational institutions in the world. Trinity College is Ireland’s oldest university and it still lives on continuing its mission of education the young. Speaking of young, the students here were on holiday break so there were much less people here than I expected. I would like to see how Trinity College is on a normal school day. I don’t think this would be my last time visiting Trinity College, hopefully, I get more chances. As it happens, Trinity College happens to be the home of what is probably one of the most important books in Ireland. As you might expect, the book is kept in a library. Much has been said about that book so I though it would pay it a visit.

The Book of Kells is probably the most important treasure in all of Ireland and it is housed here in the library of Trinity College. The book is actually a collection of the four gospels which were written by Celtic monks back in the year 800 A.D., more or less. It is described as an illuminated manuscript, meaning it has a lot of decorations in it such as borders, letters and even entire illustrations. Photos of some pages of the Book of Kells were very impressive and I really wanted to see it. Unfortunately, the library was closed for the school break so there was no viewing of the Book of Kells. It was very disappointing for me, since I needed to travel so far just to get here. I will definitely make sure to come here when I get another chance.
