Dukezong Ancient Town is an old town that was one of the major trading posts of Tibet and the Qing dynasty. If you might recall stories about a mystical town in the Himalayas which has become synonymous with peace and tranquility, the name is Shambhala. Not surprisingly, “scholars” have also pinpointed the location of this mythical city and surprise, surprise, it is at Dukezong Ancient Town. This is obviously pushing it too far now. Shangrila and Shambhala all in the same location. I guess they would do anything to make a profit.

The ancient town of Dukezong is brilliant at night. Most of the structures at the main streets of Dukezong are lit up. Much like how other ancient town are a lit up at night. Shops are open until late for your shopping pleasure and of course, restaurants are also open. At the main square there is loud music playing and this is not from some traditional performance but rather from a disco. It is a bit of a turn off as it ruins the atmosphere. It hope that the authorities can control the development here and keep true to the spirit of Shangrila or Shambhala whichever the case may be.
