Masjid Abidin

The area around the sultan’s palace seems to be some sort of city center here in Kuala Terengganu. There was a small park beside the palace and the port of Shahbandar was here. Since the palace was here, it was typical to build a major mosque nearby. The mosque in this case was the Masjid Abidin or Abidin Mosque. It was put in what seems to be one of the older parts of town but it was still highly accessible. The bus station was just a couple of blocks away.

I don’t know much about mosques but I do know that they are places of worship. The doors seemed to be open to anyone, except probably the worship area. Ny friend and I were content to take photos from afar, although it would have been interesting to see how it was inside. Of course, we do not want to be insensitive to other’s religions so we just quietly took our photos and just admire the mosque. It wasn’t particularly tall although it did have a few minarets, which seems to be a requirement for a mosque. The entire building was painted white which garnered it the nickname White Mosque. It seems to be quite an old mosque. True enough, it turns out that the mosque was built in the 18th century, quite old for something this well maintained.
