Beijing is really working very hard to drum up support for its brand new central business district. It used to be the Shanghai is the financial center of China, but Beijing will have none of that and the local government has allocated a massive amount of land in the capital to serve as the new central business dsitrict. There were incentives to lure businesses, both local and foreign to set up their headquarters here and it doesn’t seem to be a failure. I still don’t see Shanghai losing its position as the premier finanical center of China but Beijing is sure going to try to make a run for it. Who knows it may one day rival Shanghai and Shenzhen as a business center.

Although the large plots of large are still not fully occupied a new central business district is indeed taking shape. You may look at photos of the central business district and not realize that you are in China. In fact, apart from the iconic China Central Television Headquarters, there is not much to distinguish it from other business centers. Beijing already has a World Trade Center here and it is one of the tallest buildings in the city. From my estimates the central business district is only half developed and already horrendous amount of traffic pass through it wide streets. There is a subway to let you get here but I think it will only get worse. I think the authorities should start to tackle these issues before it gets any worse.
