Small Pagoda or Urn at the Jile Temple 极乐寺

Where there are Chinese temples, there are pagodas. Pagodas have been associated with Chinese temples that they have become part and parcel of the whole Chinese temple experience. The Jile Temple doesn’t have a very large pagoda but it does have a few smaller ones. Some of the pagodas were built for purely ornamental purposes while others have more religious purposes. The Jile Temple has a pagoda which was built one top of what looks like an incense pot.

I was busy taking photos that I didn’t realize that one part of the temple actually had an activity. Upon closer inspection I deduced that it was a funeral. It wasn’t very obvious as the people there were just sitting around and talking. There was a photo of the deceased in the hall and there was a Buddhist nun handling the activity. I shied away from the funeral, lest I be acused of insensitivity at the same time thinking whether or not I should still be lingering in this temple.
