We ran across the bridge dodging traffic to get to our meeting place. I was taking my own sweet time since it wasn’t really as dangerous as the ladies make it out to be. No doubt, they have heard of numerous stories about evil Chinese drivers out to get anyone who crosses the road. Anyway, I was taking photos from the bridge when we noticed a series of bright lights across the river. It seems to be a row of lively restaurants. Maybe that is where we were supposed to meet up. When we got closer, it wasn’t just a row of restaurants, there was a full blown street market there too.

Hawkers Selling... Stuff in Moye Road 莫邪路 in Suzhou 苏州

This street is Moye Street 莫邪路, as I found out, hawkers started to congregate here to sell their snacks but were constantly being driven away by the authorities, in time, the night market was made official and it is not just a food street here. They sell also sorts of snacks here including stinky tofu which can be smelt a mile away. There were other kinds of snacks here and I would have wanted to hang around this area for a while, though I’m sure my friend would not have wanted that as this kind of food is considered “dirty”. That may be so, but it is still one of the highlights in a visit to a Chinese city. Further down the road were some real restaurants, however, it seems that we were not going to eat here after all, although, it would have made a good choice anyway.
