Wangfujing Food Street 王府井小吃街

So popular is Wangfujing among the locals that it has two major food streets. This one on is similar to the Donghuamen Night Market, but in the case of Wangfujing food street 王府井小吃街, the entire street is only for pedestrians so you won’t be eating car exhaust together with your grilled scorpion. The snacks on sale are pretty much the same as the one in Donghuamen, which includes the mandatory scorpion, silk worm and other unconventional foods.

As expected the food street here is packed with people though there seemed to be noticably more foreigner三 here. I guess this is the original food street of Beijing. The stalls here are built quite well and look pleasing to the eyes. The place was cleaner than I expected though I thought Donghuamen was cleaner as the ground didn’t feel sticky.

This food street isn’t just about snacks, there were also shops selling souvenir items. It was already quite late that night and some of the shops were already closed. As you can probably guess, this is an extremely touristy area. I think one sign of this fact, is that shop owners would call foreigners out in English each time they get a chance too. And like Donghuamen, the competition here is intense and they will shout at you to get you to buy snacks from them. Still, a visit to Beijing will not be complete without a visit here. Just make sure you watch out for your stuff as this place seems to be ripe for pickpockets.
