The T Cafe

I was very much relieved to be back in Tanah Rata. The weather has since become cool again and my frustration from waiting almost two hours for a bus which never came is ebbing away. It was already mid afternoon because of all that time wasted and I still haven’t had lunch. I quickly made my way to one of the more well known eating places here in Tanah Rata – The T Cafe.

The T Cafe doesn’t have a storefront as you access the cafe through a flight of stairs beside Marrybrown. The cafe is quite quaint and homey, as I would expect this place to be quite popular with travelers. Since it was midafternoon, there was still room for me. I got a seat beside the window where I can see the main road of Tanah Rata. I ordered lamb chop and some tea. I figured that to eat something I don’t really have very often. I thought their lamb chop was priced quite affordably so I went for that.

Unfortunately, the lamb chop didn’t turn out to be very nice. The serving was quite generous with two slabs of meat. However, the meat itself was too rubbery to be of any use. Only the meat nearest the bones was consumable. I ended up feeling sorry I ordered that. Since I not longer have to go around looking for stuff to do, I decided to spend the rest of the afternoon sipping tea at the T Cafe. My passionfruit orange tea was from Boh’s Tea and it was very fragrant.

The thing with these kinds of tea is that they don’t really have much taste, so I had to put a pack of sugar with each cup, effectively turning it into juice. Maybe I’m just too used to my “tea” having flavor. The T Cafe is also famous for their apple pie and scones. However, I decided to give this place another try that night. Anyway, the owner of the T Cafe seems to be very friendly guy. He seems to be a devout Catholic as he has images of the Holy Family in the Cafe. He even has a Philippine Christmas Lantern on the entrance of the cafe, I forgot to ask where he got it.

By the time you read this, The T Cafe might have already changed their name to The Lord’s Cafe as planned, they will stil be in the same place though.
