Tin Hau Temple in Shek O

The small town of Shek O is really a pleasant place to be in. It was quite enjoyable to be just wandering around the town and actually seeing the sky, unlike the more well known parts of Hong Kong. So you can just imagine how enjoyable it really was to walk around the town. The town itself is not really filled with notable buildings except one, the Tin Hau Temple here in Shek O. Although one of several Tin Hau Temples in Hong Kong, this was marked for possible inclusion on their list of historical monuments. Tin Hau Temple is built in honor of the Chinese goddess of the sea, Tin Hau or Tian Hou.

It is said that this Tin Hau Temple was built in the late 1800s. However from the looks of it, it seems to have undergone a lot of restoration and it looks like it couldn’t have been built later than a couple of decades ago. Anyway, the Tin Hau Temple here is certainly one of the important buildings in the area and a lot of the locals still come and use the temple.
