Going to the Grand Palace

One of the most significant attractions in Bangkok is the Grand Palace. Fortunately for me, the Grand Palace was within walking distance of Khao San Road. I brought along a Bangkok map I got from Phuket airport which was really handy since I need to know how to get there, it wasn’t really easy navigating such a big city. Khao San road doesn’t seem to be very near the metro system so I can only go there either by cab or by foot.

It was still early in the morning so I decided to go on foot. After all, it does seem quite close looking at the map. I had a hard time orienting the map since there were no major landmarks I can use to properly rotate the map, I had to go back and forth Khao San road several times to get it right. The walk to the Grand Palace was a pleasant one as I needed to walk through a commercial area and then through a nice shaded avenue. From here I could already see the Grand Palace.

It has been years since I last visited the Grand Palace but I had no better idea on what to do here in Bangkok this time of the day. Going to the floating market was alreaady too late for me besides, I still needed to go shopping in the afternoon. All foreigners entering the Grand Palace need to pay and entrance fee. The locals have a separate entrance on the other side of the palace grounds. I tried to sneak in through the free entrance but I was obviously a foreigner so they pointed me to the foreigner entrance. Too bad.
