With nothing really much to do around here, and still no other tourist to share the boat with, I was merely walking back and forth along the river area. I went back to Bright Hotel to get another nap. When I said I will be kicking back and relaxing I really meant it. There isn’t much happening in this village, you’d feel that work is thousands of miles away. Nyaungshwe has internet cafes but I wasn’t really interested in getting connected with the outside world right now. Besides, a lot of the major sites I visit are blocked anyway. Interestingly, some of the sites are accessible after some amount of trying. Go figure.

I woke up just in time for dinner. There were a couple of restaurants along the road of Bright Hotel and they all looked more or less the same. I decided to go to the Daw Nyunt Yee Restaurant. This was a typical Burmese eatery serving Burmese and Chinese food. However, this restaurant seems to be leaning towards the Chinese side that they had more Chinese sounding food. I ended up having fried noodles which was obviously Chinese. It was actually tasty but I was already getting bored of the food here.

The Daw Nyunt Yee Restaurant had a TV showing some Burmese or maybe Thai serial. I don’t think I have even seen a western show here in Myanmar. Since everything is tightly controlled, it doesn’t come as a surprise to me. Surprisingly, for such a poor looking place, they have cable TV and one of the most anticipated shows here are the English Premier League matches. I thought it was a little strange but it seems that the Burmese are quite fond of football. The guy at the remote kept flipping through the sports channels looking for football news, which is probably the only thing I can understand on TV.

Eating at Daw Nyunt Yee Restaurant turned out to be a pleasant way to experience the lives of the Burmese here in Nyaungshwe. By western standard these lives are really simple ones but the Burmese don’t seem to mind it at all.
