From Tsim Sha Tsui, we went back to Hong Kong island to the town of Stanley. Stanley used to be an administrative center for the British who then moved it to Central some years after. Now, Stanley is a tourist attraction known for its market and bars.
Usually, when tourists go to Stanley, it is mainly for their market and the row of restaurants along the promenade. The market wasn’t really spectacular for me since there wasn’t really anything of interest for me there. A lot of clothes and swimwear were one sale there but I couldn’t be bothered.
Stanley is situated in a small peninsula and the main town is by the sea. There is nice little promenade where visitors can walk by the sea. It was already dark by the time we got there so we didn’t get to see the sunset there. Instead the promenade is lit up by the row of bars and restaurants on the ground level of some colonial style buildings.
What would Hong Kong be without a mall? As expected, further down the promenade is Stanley Plaza. Okay, it is not really a mall, but rather a small shopping center which primarily caters to the residents in the area. Stanley is a nice place to live if it weren’t so expensive. It is markedly different to be walking here away from the busy-ness of Central. Transportation is also convenient here since there is a bus that goes directly to Central or Causeway Bay.
It took a while for us to get a bus back to Central from here, for a while there we thought that our bus wasn’t even running. But then impatience and hunger got the better of us and we took another bus that passes nearby.
