Going to the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp

Friend of mine was telling me of a time he went to the Netherlands and ended up dropping by Belgium in a city he can’t remember. I thought he was mistaken and ended up going to Germany but he insisted it was Belgium. When I was looking at the map of Belgium, I noticed that Antwerp was the nearest big city to the Netherlands. So I suggested the could it be Antwerp that he was talking about. All he remembers is that there was a large church there. Okay, that might be a stretch since Belgium has a lot of large churches. I look at the photo already told him that it really was the place. The church or rather cathedral in question is the Cathedral of Our Lady.

It turned out to be right behind the restaurant where we decided to have an early lunch. Of course this is not some mere coincidence since the whole point of visiting Antwerp was to see this cathedral which was part of the UNESCO World Heritage site listing under Belfries of Belgium and France. It looks like were were behind the cathedral as there didn’t seem to be a way in. I can see the belfry but it was on the other side of the block. So we needed to go around to get to the front door.
