Going to Saint Bartholomew’s Church in New York

Going Saint Bartholomew’s Church

There seem to be a few significant structures here in Park Avenue in New York City. I somehow stumbled into the Waldorf Astoria Hotel which is probably one of the most famous hotels in the world. While it may not have the same fame as before, it is still has a lot of history to go with it. I walked down Park Avenue and saw a structure which seemed to be a little out of place in this city of skyscrapers. There was another church her and the design is also quite unique. The Saint Bartholomew’s Church or Saint Bart’s Church is a striking landmark along Park Avenue.

The church exterior hints of an old design. This style is called Byzantine Revival. Despite its design the church is relatively new. The current structure was built in the early 1900s. It is an episcopal church which I take to mean Protestant. This kind of structure is a rare commodity in New York city where real estate is at a premium. There used to be plans to convert part of the church into a fifty story office tower but conservation groups won out. I probably understand the financial concerns of doing so but I’m not sure if it is good at the cost of a piece of history.
